Evaluations

Teacher evaluations are going on across the country at this time of year.  You've likely recently done one yourself. It is my wish that this was a practice that we could incorporate into more of the relationships we have.  I think it would be great if at the end of the season you could get evaluations from those close to you.  How good of a friend have I been this season? And son or daughter? How good of a sibling have I been? How would you evaluate my performance as a lover? Do you have any comments on my behavior as your roommate? And on the other side of the coin, I think far too often we let those we love go feeling unappreciated.  The problems we have, the things that bother us, we let them fester and grow until we develop an irrational disposition against those who should be our loved ones. Ideally, we shouldn't need passive aggressive pieces of paper to evaluate such things, ideally we should be able to properly communicate our love and our boundaries in a healthy way, making others feel appreciated while still facilitating their growth as individuals as well as members of a community. Ideally. But we all know that day will never come. So evaluations would be cool.

The lookout

Often, when Nathan and I are in class, I see us less as students, and more as soldiers. We were ordered to patrol, to stand the night watch. Except, it's only just past noon, it may as well be the graveyard shift in a half deserted outpost somewhere in Siberia. We'll take turns. I'll take the first break, and come to relieve you in an hour. But in that hour we both fall asleep. It's cold in Siberia, frozen. I've always heard that you shouldn't fall asleep in extreme cold, you'll die. Who would order these poor souls on such a death mission? Colonel Stewart, that bitch. Some call her "doctor," but I'm not buying it, "general" perhaps or even "commander." This is her fault right? It's hard to remember through the haze of sleep, but there's a chance that it wasn't. I might have volunteered, or maybe that was a dream.

p.s.
It's too cold for shorts. Maybe I can sleep till spring like the bears, they seem to really have their shit all figured out.

An introduction

As I concurrently have a facebook, twitter, and tumblr, I don't imagine that any one of them will receive the proper attention required to be interesting.  My vision for this blog is primarily as an outlet for my scholarly voice as well as overly personal and cynical tirades.

Enjoy ~_^
